Smarts Broadcast Systems Press Release For Immediate Release 8/15/01 For more information Contact: John Schad Smarts Broadcast Systems 800 747-6278 Smarts Broadcast Systems of Emmetsburg, Iowa has announced the acquisition of On Air Digital, a digital audio manufacturer located in Dallas, Texas. On Air Digital manufactures products complementary to the Smarts product line of digital systems for radio stations. Their Ultimate Digital Studio is a well known product in the industry currently in use in several hundred radio stations. Their RadioSuite product is a state-of-the-art radio automation system that brings a new, innovative, and highly stable computer operating system to the broadcast industry. These products will be added to the current Smartcaster line of digital audio products manufactured by Smarts. John Schad, CEO of Smarts Broadcast Systems said that all manufacturing and administrative operations will be moved from Dallas to Iowa, but the On Air Digital sales and product development staff will remain in Texas. The acquisition positions Smarts Broadcast Systems as a major player in digital broadcast products worldwide, according to Schad. The company now has over 3,000 units in the field, representing more than 25% of the total radio stations in the United States. Units are also located in over 20 other countries around the world. Schad went on to say that the real value of the acquisition is yet to come. "We will soon be introducing a brand new product to the broadcast marketplace combining the best features of both the RadioSuite and Smartcaster products, and adding new and exciting functionality not yet available to the industry." Schad said that the acquisition will allow rapid development of a whole new line of products based around the Linux operating system. The broad new product line will consist of upward compatible modules to allow stations to acquire simple digital systems very inexpensively but later grow them into more complex systems as their needs change. Running under Linux, all systems will offer reliability not possible with more conventional operating systems. The On Air Digital division of Smarts will be managed by John Schaab in Dallas.
