On Air Digital A4000 Audio Controller
|
| |
The On Air Digital A4000 Audio Controller is the heart of the Ultimate Digital Studio's
advanced audio and control capabilities. The A4000 is expandable, up to ten individual plug in input
modules. As many as eight A4000 audio controllers can be controlled by a single UDS system. Both
mono and stereo active-balanced outputs are available from the A4000 program output, and an optional
audition output module is also available.
All A4000 inputs incorporate modern low noise circuitry. Each input may be configured as either
high impedance balanced (bridging), high impedance unbalanced, or 600-ohm balanced. Multi-turn
trim pots give the A4000 an extremely wide range of input capabilities. Each A4000 input card also
includes a control relay for starting external equipment (either pulsed or latching). An end-of-message
(EOM) control input is provided, giving the A4000 an unprecedented amount of control for satellite
network joins and the control of any device that can be controlled by closures.
Other notable features include:
- Active-balanced stereo and mono outputs
- Optional audition output
- Universal power supply

UDS and the RBDS option
|
| |
The RBDS option is just one more reason to choose the UDS II, the ultimate on-air management and control system.
Sometimes when a new technology comes out, it takes a while for people to come up with ways to use
it. RBDS is a classic example. Can it help a station improve its image and revenue? Absolutely! Are
more stations using it to its fullest capabilities? Not really.
Stations using RBDS have been confined to either using it as a format beat or dealing with the
embarrassment of having a billboard display that does not track with what is currently on the air.
The latter problem is the result of feeding the RBDS information from a source other than the on-air
source. If you have loaded your music schedule it will get off track the minute a time update occurs
or a change is made to the log. The answer is to link the on-air system to the RBDS encoder. That
is exactly what we have done with the UDS II. The result is a system that accurately displays:
- Title of on-air song
- Artist of on-air song
- Station image line
- Song coming up next (When on-air song is ending or when non-music events are on-air.)
The UDS RBDS Option has been configured for the DCI Broadcast Products RBDS encoder.
